Abstract
Miguel Torga’s Diário is a factual torrent of numerous types of information. Being an intimate, external and even literary journal, it is possible to verify the presence of several traditions from TrásosMontes e Alto Douro taken during Torga’s passages through his native region. These registrations became a true testimonial of Ethnographical and Anthropological value for TrásosMontes, picturing the habits and customs of its common people.
The book Entre Quem É! Tradições de TrásosMontes e Alto Douro no Diário de Miguel Torga embraces two fundamental views of great importance: On the one hand, it focuses on specific traditions of TrásosMontes region, some of which have been disappearing like, as examples, the chega de bois (a fight between two bulls), the vezeira (sheepherder on turn), the community bakery, the act of the Passion, the traditional pig slaughter, the malhadas (threshing crops); on the other hand, the whole study, survey, analysis and questioning is based on the sixteen volumes of Torga’s journal. The timing of this publication is strongly related to the fact that this year, 2007, it was celebrated Miguel Torga’s Centenary of Birth.
